World Library and Information Congress: 75th IFLA General Conference and Assembly

"Libraries create futures: Building on cultural heritage"

23-27 August 2009, Milan, Italy

Letters of Invitation, Passports and Visas

A valid passport is required for entry into Italy. Participants from some countries may also require a visa for entry into Italy. Please contact your nearest Italian Consulate or Embassy for specific details.

Participants requiring a letter of invitation in order to attend the Congress are asked to fill in the form to request an online personalised letter of invitation. This must be submitted to the relevant Embassy together with a copy of your registration confirmation. However, if this document is not suitable, please email ifla2009reg@congrex.com with the additional details to be added.

Please note that this procedure aims to assist participants who need to obtain a visa or permission to attend the Congress. It is not an official invitation covering fees and other expenses, nor does it imply any financial support from the Congress.

The website of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs offers helpful information with regard to visa applications.

Please make arrangements for your visa as soon as possible. The procedure may take longer than expected for various reasons.

When filling out the forms, please make sure that you do not claim that you come to work in Italy, even though visiting a congress may be considered work.
Entering the country as a Tourist is most suitable as in the past it has happened that delegates were refused entry to a country if it was though that the delegate came to stay in the country to work for good.
