The IFLA Library and Research Services for Parliaments Section and the Parliamentary Information Centre of the Parliament of South Africa invite proposals for presentations at the Pre-Conference to be held at the Parliament of South Africa, in Cape Town, from 12 to 14 August 2015.

The satellite meeting will focus on the theme Development, Transformation and Co-Operation in Library and Research services in Parliaments. It intends to explore how parliamentary library, research and information services evolve and innovate to respond to the information and documentation needs of the Parliament and other users.

With this focus, we are looking for papers that may:

  • Present case studies where a library/research/information service has adapted its function, and redesigned or innovated its services to meet the needs of its users;
  • Discuss the critical factors that a parliamentary library/research/information service should consider when planning for innovation and change;
  • Offer insights and examples on the application of new technologies in the context of parliamentary library/research/information services;
  • Describe ways in which cooperation with other parliaments or different organizations have affected the development of services and resources;
  • Illustrate how developing new functions can impact the position of a library/research/information service within the parliamentary administration;
  •  Share case studies on how user needs/expectations provide input for development or transformation of services.

Highly engaging papers will be selected with the goal of sharing knowledge as well as encouraging strategic planning, long term vision, and innovative thinking in other parliamentary library, research and information services.
